Question:

A body is projected horizontally with a velocity of 4√2 m/sec. The velocity of the body after 0.7 seconds will be nearly: (Take g=10 m/sec²)

11 m/sec

9 m/sec

10 m/sec

19 m/sec

Solution:

Since only gravitational force acts on the object downwards, the horizontal component of velocity remains the same = vx = 4√2 m/s. Initially, there is no vertical component of the velocity. Thus, the final velocity in the vertical direction = vy = at = 10 × 0.7 m/s = 7 m/s. Thus, net velocity = √(vx² + vy²) = √((4√2)² + 7²) = √(32 + 49) = √81 = 9 m/s
