Question:

A child has a die whose six faces show the letters as given below: The die is thrown once. What is the probability of getting (i) A? (ii) D?

Solution:

Total possible outcomes when a dice is thrown n(S)=6

i) A≡Event that A shows up on the dice.
∴n(A)=2
P(A)=n(A)/n(S)=2/6=1/3

ii) D≡Event that D shows up on the dice.
∴n(A)=1
P(D)=n(D)/n(S)=1/6
