Name the source plant of heroin drug. How is it obtained from the plant?

The source plant of heroin is the opium poppy (Papaver somniferum). Heroin is obtained from the opium poppy through a multi-step process. First, the unripe seed pods of the opium poppy are slashed, causing a milky white sap, called opium, to ooze out. This opium is then collected and dried. The dried opium contains various alkaloids, including morphine. Morphine is then extracted from the opium and chemically processed to produce heroin (diacetylmorphine).
