Fruit that develops from the ovary is called a true fruit e.g., mango. But in some species, the thalamus produces the fleshy edible part (fruit), and it is called a false or pseudo fruit e.g., apple. In banana, the development of fruit takes place without fertilization. Such a type of fruit is called a parthenocarpic fruit or seedless fruit or virgin fruit.
