Question:

A transformer consists of 500 turns in the primary coil and 10 turns in a secondary coil with the load of 10Ω. Find out current in the primary coil when the voltage across the secondary coil is 50 V.

5A

10A

1A

2A

Solution:

Correct option is B. 1A
As we know that ,
VP/VS = NP/NS
Where VP is the voltage across primary side
VS is the voltage across secondary side
VP/VS = 500/10
VP = 2500
is = VS/R = 50/10 = 5A
ip/is = VS/VP
ip*5 = 500/2500
Current across primary side, ip = 1/5 * 5 = 1A.
