Tendon reflex.
Flexor reflex.
Patellar reflex.
Ipsilateral reflex.
The contraction of a muscle in response to passive stretching is defined as a stretch reflex. This type of reflex allows the correction of body posture in a timely manner without the involvement of the cerebral cortex, while maintaining the muscle tone at the same time. A well known example of stretch reflex is patellar reflex or knee jerk reflex, i.e., sudden kicking movement of the lower leg in response to a sharp tap on patellar tendon.
