Mass of the object, m = 100 kg
Initial velocity of the object, u = 5 ms⁻¹
Final velocity of the object, v = 8 m/s
Thus initial momentum of the object, Pi = mu = 100 × 5 = 500 kg m s⁻¹
Final momentum of the object, Pf = mv = 100 × 8 = 800 kg m/s
Time taken to change the velocity, t = 6 s
v = u + at
8 = 5 + a(6)
⇒ a = 0.5 ms⁻²
F = ma = 100 × 0.5 = 50 N
