- Carbylamine reaction: C6H5NH2 + CHCl3 + 3KOH(alc) → C6H5NC + 3KCl + 3H2O
- C6H5N2Cl + Water → Room temp C6H5OH (phenol)
Benzene diazonium chloride is stable at 0-5°C but when the temperature is raised to room temperature it loses N2 molecule to give phenyl cation (unstable). Water molecule attacks the cation to form phenol.
