Question:

Find the area of the shaded region if ABCD is a rectangle with sides 8 cm and 6 cm and O is the center of the circle. (Take π=3.14)

Solution:

Given sides of rectangle are l=8 cm, b=6 cm
From the figure
Diameter of circle is equal to Diagonal of rectangle
∴ radius = √(6² + 8²) = 5 cm
Area of circle is πr² = π(5)² = 25π = 78.5 cm²
Area of rectangle is l×b = 6×8 = 48 cm²
Area of shaded portion = Area of Circle - Area of Rectangle = 78.5 - 48 = 30.5 cm²
