How is the entry of only one sperm and not many ensured into an ovum during fertilization in humans?

During fertilization in humans, once the sperm comes in contact with the ovum, it depolarizes the zona pellucida layer of the ovum. Simultaneously, the fusion of cortical granules (containing enzymes) with the zona pellucida layer takes place. This process blocks the entry of other sperms.
