How were Vietnamese nationalists inspired by Japan and China to set up a democratic republic?

China overthrew their long established monarchy in 1911. Japan had resisted colonial rule and had defeated Russia which showed its military capabilities. These improvements inspired the Vietnamese to a great extent. They set up various associations in both countries such as the Restoration society in Tokyo, and the Restoration of Vietnam in China.
