Question:

Identify the components labelled A, B, C and D in the diagram above from the list (i) to (viii). Components :(i) Cristae of mitochondria (ii) Inner membrane of mitochondria (iii) Cytoplasm (iv) Smooth endoplasmic reticulum (v) Rough endoplasmic reticulum (vi) Mitochondrial matrix (vii) Cell vacuole (viii) Nucleus The correct components are A - (v), B - (i), C - (iii), D - (ii) A - (v,) B - (iv), C - (viii), D - (iii) A - (i), B - (iv), C - (viii), D - (vi) A - (vi,) B - (v), C - (iv), D - (vii)

A - (i), B - (iv), C - (viii), D - (vi)

A - (v), B - (i), C - (iii), D - (ii)

A - (v,) B - (iv), C - (viii), D - (iii)

A - (vi,) B - (v), C - (iv), D - (vii)

Solution:

In the given diagram A represents the structure of rough endoplasmic reticulum (RER). It is associated with small dense granules called ribosomes, along the outer border of its membrane. ER is sometimes not associated with ribosome (represented by B) hence called as smooth endoplasmic reticulum. C represents the structure of nucleus surrounded by a nuclear envelope. Cytoplasm is the jelly-like fluid protoplasmic fluid which surrounds the nucleus, represented by structure D. Thus, option B is the correct answer.
