Question:

Jayant, Karthik and Leena were partners in a firm sharing profits and losses in the ratio of 5:2:3. Kartik died and Jayant and Leena decided to continue the business. Their gaining ratio was 2:3. Calculate the new profit sharing ratio of Jayant and Leena.

Solution:

New ratio = old ratio + gain ratio
Jayant new ratio = 5/10 + 2/5 = 9/10
Leena new ratio= 3/10 + 3/5 = 9/10
So the new ratio will be 1:1.
