Lightning and thunder take place in the sky at the same time and at the same distance from us. Lightning is seen earlier and thunder is heard later. Can you explain?

Lightning is seen earlier than the thunder because the speed of light is much greater than the speed of sound. Therefore, even though both occur at the same time and place in the sky, the light from the lightning reaches our eyes much faster than the sound of the thunder reaches our ears.
