Predict the directions of induced currents in metal rings 1 and 2 lying in the same plane where current I in the wire is increasing steadily.

By Right hand thumb rule the direction of magnetic field through ring 1 , due to current in wire will be perpendicular outward from the plane of paper . Now according to Lenz's law , as the current is increasing in wire , the direction of induced current in ring 1 will be such that , it should oppose the increment of current in wire , for that lower face of ring 1 will be a north pole i.e. upper face will be south pole . If upper face is south then direction of current in ring 1 is clockwise .Due to same reason the direction of induced current in ring 2 will be anticlockwise .
