Question:

The largest possible sphere is carved out of a wooden solid cube of side 7cm. Find the volume of the wood left. [Use π=22/7]

163.3 cm3

165 cm3

164 cm3

170 cm3

Solution:

For such sphere its diameter should be equal to the side of sphere.
Diameter of sphere=7cm
So, radius=3.5cm
Volume of the sphere carved out=4/3πr³=4/3×22/7×3.5³=179.7cm³
Volume of the cube of edge 'a' units=a³=7³=343
Volume of the wooden left=343−179.7=163.3 cm³
