Question:

The point represented by 2+i in the Argand plane moves 1 unit eastwards, then 2 units northwards and finally from there 2√2 units in the south-westwards direction. Then its new position in the Argand plane is at the point represented by:

-i

1+i

2+2i

i

Solution:

The correct option is C 1+i
Let the point be Z=2+i
Moves one unit eastward then new position will be Z1=(2+1)+i=3+i
It moves 2 units northwards then its new position will be Z2=3+(1+2)i=3+3i
And Finally it moves 2√2 units in south-westwards direction.
It means it moved 2 units in south direction and 2 units in west direction. So, new and final position will be Z3=(3-2)+(3-2)i=1+i
