Question:

The shape of the garden is rectangular in the middle and semicircular at the ends as shown in the diagrams. Find the area and the perimeter of this garden. [Length of rectangle is 20-(3.5+3.5) metres]

Solution:

Given:⇒D=7m∴R=3.5m⇒Combined circumference of semi circles=2πR=2×22/7×3.5=22m⇒Length=20-(3.5+3.5)=13⇒Perimeter=13+22+13=48m⇒Area=13×7+2(22/7×3.5²)=129.5sq metres
