Question:

The triangular side walls of a flyover have been used for advertisements. The sides of the walls are 122 m, 22 m and 120 m (see figure). The advertisements yield an earning of Rs. 5000 per m² per year. A company hired one of its walls for 3 months. How much rent did it pay?

Solution:

Given: →Sides: a = 122 m, b = 22 m and c = 120 m
→Perimeter, P = 122 + 22 + 120 = 264 m
→Semi perimeter = S = 264/2, S = 132 m
→A = √s(s-a)(s-b)(s-c) (Heron's formula)
→A = √132(132-122)(132-22)(132-120)
→= √132 × 10 × 110 × 12 = 1320 m²
→For 1m², area per year, rent = Rs. 5000
→For 1m², area per month rent = Rs. 5000/12
→For 1320m², area 3 months rent = Rs. 5000/12 × 3 × 1320
→Rent = Rs. 1650000
