What happens when anisole is treated with CH3Cl/anhydrous AlCl3?

When anisole is treated with CH3Cl in the presence of anhydrous AlCl3, a mixture of ortho and para methyl anisole is produced. Anisole undergoes Friedel-Crafts alkylation reaction with an alkyl halide in the presence of Lewis acid AlCl3 as a catalyst.
