ICl is an interhalogen compound. It contains two atoms of different electronegativities. Hence, the bond is polar. The polarity of the I-Cl bond makes ICl more reactive than the homonuclear diatomic halogens Br2, I2, and Cl2. The electronegativity difference leads to a greater susceptibility to bond breaking and participation in chemical reactions.
