The potential energy of the water in the reservoir gets converted into the kinetic energy of the flowing water. The flowing water rotates the turbine shaft connected to the generator which produces electricity. Thus kinetic energy of water transforms into the mechanical energy of the turbine which further gets converted into electric energy.
