Write two examples each of sexually transmitted diseases caused by (i) virus, (ii) bacteria. Explain how the transmission of such diseases can be prevented?

Sexually transmitted diseases are those diseases that can be transmitted from an infected person to a healthy person by sexual contact. They can be caused by viruses and bacteria such as:

Virus: AIDS and hepatitis B.
Bacteria: Gonorrhoea and syphilis.

Sexually transmitted diseases can be prevented by:

  • Avoiding blood transfusion from an infected person.
  • Avoiding multiple or unknown sexual partners.
  • Not reusing used needles and syringes.
  • Providing proper treatment to pregnant women to prevent the child from getting infected.
